Need glasses for cinema or driving?

Are you suitable for laser eye treatment with the WaveLight Allegretto laser?

Though the WaveLight Allegretto allows more people to receive custom procedures than before, there are certain individuals who are not good candidates for this procedure.

You are probably NOT a good candidate for this treatment if you:

• are under 21 years old - at this age, your are still growing and are susceptible to change, particularly if you have a lot of astigmatism, or ‘rugby ball’ shaped eyes (we will determine this at your consultation)
• have poor vision in one or both eyes, for reasons other than needing glasses
• are pregnant or nursing - while pregnant, changes occur in your hormone system that can alter your vision, so it's better to postpone the operation until after your child is born and after you are finished nursing
• are taking certain medications – steroids, methotrexate, isotretinoin
• have advanced or unstable diabetes – if you have early and well controlled diabetes you may still be a candidate although potential risks may be somewhat higher than average
• have very thin corneas (we will determine this at your consultation)
• have very dry eyes (we will determine this at your consultation)
• have glaucoma
• have keratoconus (a corneal irregularity - we will determine this at your consultation)
• have eye inflammation
• have herpes simplex or had shingles affecting the eyes or forehead
• have suffered severe eye injuries in the past
• have corneal infections or scars
• have a prescription that is still changing (does not apply to reading corrections)
• have other diseases of the eyes such as age-related macular degeneration
• have cataracts - we can still treat you but will look at a reading lens implant with or without additional laser correction (we will determine this at your consultation)
