MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS - The Diary
Eamonn’s Eyes Have it As far as New Year’s resolutions go it has to go down as one of the most extreme, but genial TV and radio host Eamonn O’Neal is determined to go ahead and have surgery on his eyes.
“I’m sick of wearing glasses,” he tells me. Eamonn, who presents for BBC Radio Manchester and produces and presents daytime TV shows for Granada, was hooked up with surgeon David Allamby after the doctor’s parents heard him moaning about his glasses on his radio show late last year.
He says: “They got in touch and told me how David was pioneering this new type of laser eye surgery so I signed up for it.”
But not until he’d had a personal recommendation from one of the surgeon’s past patients – a certain Rick Wakeman, legendary keyboard player with progressive rock giants Yes.
He tells me: “David told me he would get one of his patients to call me to talk me through the treatment. Then a couple of days later the phone goes and it’s Rick Wakeman – which was something of a surprise.”
CLEAR VISION Eamonn’s all set for pioneering eye treatment. |
