20/20 clinic

Sue Barker MBE is one of the most celebrated former professional tennis players in the world. Having won some eleven World Tennis Association Tour singles titles achieved her highest ranking at number 3 in the world. Now a household name after cementing her place as a leading sports presenter for the BBC, Sue is integral to the entire Wimbledon experience.

Sue’s Blended Vision Procedure

The year that Sue handed the winning cup to Andy Murray was also the first year that Sue did not need any glasses. Sue had Blended Vision laser eye surgery at Focus Clinic weeks before Wimbledon started. She states that the Blended Vision surgery has ‘absolutely transformed me‘ and is ‘without question the best thing I’ve done‘.

In common with over 20 million Britons, Sue needed glasses every time she wanted to read, such as the newspaper, an email or text message. Sue described how she had often struggled to see the question cards on BBC’s Question of Sport.

After having Blended Vision surgery at Focus, a technique pioneered in the UK by our founder and medical director Dr. David Allamby, Sue no longer needs glasses for anything; Sue has20/20 vision for both distance and near.

'The thought of an eye surgery was quite scary, but I met people at Focus that had it done and that was pretty reassuring'

Blended Vision

Do you find it hard to read menus in restaurants without putting on your reading glasses? Or how about the hassle of not being able to read your text messages quickly when you’re out and about?

Treatment is now available for those who need glasses for reading. If you have always had good vision and now find yourself over 40 and needing reading glasses for close distances, or if you have been wearing glasses for distance vision, and now find you are losing your close up vision, you may be developing presbyopia. This is an unavoidable condition where the eye’s ability to focus on near objects diminishes as we get a little older.
