Focus Clinics' LASEK procedure, refined by chief surgeon David Allamby, has resulted in a 100% success rate for all common myopia prescriptions and a boosted safety profile.
At Focus we offer both PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) and LASEK (Laser-Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratectomy). Both are safe, effective alternatives to LASIK for patients with thinner corneas, dry eyes, or those involved in contact sports.
These procedures reshape the cornea using an excimer laser, correcting vision problems like short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.
The key difference is how the surface layer of the eye (epithelium) is handled:
PRK removes the epithelium entirely before reshaping the cornea. The layer then naturally regenerates during recovery.
LASEK uses an alcohol solution to loosen the epithelium, which is gently moved aside during surgery and then replaced afterward.
Both procedures avoid creating a flap (as in LASIK), which can be advantageous for certain patients. PRK and LASEK have a slightly longer healing period than LASIK, but they offer similar long-term results and are often recommended when LASIK isn’t suitable.
