Here at Focus Clinic London we are proud to share the world’s first LASIK (‘laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis’) eye surgery live video in 360 augmented reality.

Performed by our very own Dr David Allamby, this footage is a great way for those thinking of getting laser eye surgery to get an idea of what to expect and also to show that the procedure really isn’t as scary as you may have thought!

LASIK is the most widely performed type of laser eye surgery, correcting the following vision problems:

  • Long-sight – mild to moderate forms of this can be treated, however if it is of a high severity it may not be treatable
  • Short sight – also called myopia, most prescriptions can be corrected with LASIK
  • Astigmatism – this is a refractive error where light fails to come to a single focus on the retina to produce clear vision. Most of these cases can be treated by LASIK
  • Presbyopia – this is a condition for those that need glasses for reading. Often occurring in people aged 45+, presbyopia can be treated by LASIK

On top of this the success rate of 20/20 vision for all common short-sighted prescriptions at Focus Clinic is 100%. Can you be in any better hands? We certainly don’t think so!

Ready To See Clearly?

Focus has a 100% 20/20 vision success rate for all common short-sighted prescriptions using it’s A-LASIK technique.

A Quick Rundown of the Live 360 LASIK treatment

As you can see in our video, the LASIK treatment is a relatively short and sweet surgical procedure, with the treatment taking just 10 minutes and the whole visit lasting around 2 hours.

Take a look below to find a five step breakdown of the procedure shown in the video:

  1. The area of your eye is cleaned and numbed before the treatment begins to ensure patients feel no pain. Although most patients manage fine with these drops, if you are feeling particularly nervous we can provide you with a tablet to help you relax
  2. Once you are lying down ready for the procedure, a small speculum will be used to keep your eye open. These look a lot scarier than they actually are, as you will not feel it and it won’t affect your blinking at all
  3. Your surgeon will use a femtosecond laser to create a corneal flap. At this point you may feel a brief pressure on your eye as this precise laser will release 100 million pulses in 20 seconds. Pressure over and the LASIK flap has been created
  4. Folding back the LASIK flap, an excimer laser that has your prescription programmed into it will reshape the corneal curvature and correct your vision in around 5-10 seconds. All you need to do is look at the green light
  5. The LASIK flap is returned back in place and the treatment is complete!

Most common concerns around laser eye surgery

There are many scaremongering myths out there about laser eye surgery. Our 360 video is designed to help debunk these and identify fiction from facts. If you are still unsure, we have a list below clarifying what is true and false about the LASIK procedure.

  • MYTH – LASIK is a painful eye surgery FACT – The truth is LASIK is a quick and pain free treatment. As shown in the video, numbing drops are applied to your eyes before the procedure to limit any discomfort.  Whilst the patient may experience a short feeling of pressure as the corneal flap is created, this is the kind of pain the patient will experience
  • MYTH-  LASIK eye surgery is a fairly new treatment and therefore long term effects have not been identified yetFACT-  LASIK surgery has been commonly performed for over 25 years now with a very high rate of success
  • MYTH – The laser will burn your eyesFACT – LASIK, along with all other laser eye surgeries use “cold” lasers that will not burn the surface of your eye. Final Destination 5 has certainly not helped debunk this particular myth!

With the myths debunked and the treatment here for you to see, there is nothing stopping you from transforming your sight and undergoing laser eye surgery!
